The Speedvagen Rugged’er ROAD Always Says Yes.

Different strokes for different folks, right?

We built this bike to be a best bud who always says yes. All day ride? Yes! Trail look like it could get sketchy? Yes! Night ride in the woods? Yes! Planning on racing Griduro or The Rift? HELL YES. Where the standard Rugged Road is more pure gravel. The Rugged’er Road is ready to pounce on whatever you find.

Send it down stairs or fire lanes, paths or anything else. Race it and ultimately ride the shit out of it. Maybe its “over biking” or maybe you just need to live a little more…Either way, this best bud likes to party. Stop for the beer and fries, then take the shortcut home. You are never on the wrong bike when you are on a Rugged’er Road.

details make the difference

Details make the difference. The time and care we put into each bike goes toward the craft of hundreds of details big and small. Each refinement alone is not revolutionary, but when put together make for a rarified gestalt experience, on and off the bike. This sum, greater than each part, is a feeling — an emotion for how the bike rides that only a Speedvagen can give you.

The Speedvagen Rugged’er Road is us taking the Rugged Road platform up to 11. Bigger tires, up to 700x50s, 30mm of suspension and all the details of our custom Rugged Road frame sets. Here’s the best part, you are a part of this process.

Going custom on a Speedvagen is like getting the keys to the candy shop. Pick the delicious wet paint flavors you want and none of the build details you don’t. 3rd bottle cage? Yeah that comes standard. Lighting package, hell yeah we can do that. Fenders? psshhhhh we live in Portland we KNOW fenders.

The Rugged’er Road is designed for those big one day rides. The Griduros, the Belgium Waffle Rides the ones where you could race them but you would rather just have a great day on the bike with your friends. Those days where you might end up in the woods or you might be bombing down fire lanes.

Speedvagen Custom Seat Stays

There’s a lot going on in our seatstays. First, the curves: they’re sexy, we admit it, but they’re also curved to soak up shock from the road. Imagine you’re holding a small tree branch in your hands. If it’s straight and you’re pushing on both ends, that branch won’t bend. If it has a little curve (like a bow) in will flex under pressure. The same science applies to the rear end of a Speedvagen. With that flex comes shock absorption, giving the bike a springy liveliness and smoothing out the rough stuff. On top of that at .5mm thick they are ultralight.

INTEGRATED SEATMAST

The integrated seatmast makes for beautiful lines. There are a couple of things that are unique to our bikes. Each length of every Speedvagen seatmast is finished specifically for its owner. We also use stainless steel around the top of the seat tube where our post head mounts, rather than the post head wearing on a painted surface. The result is lighter and cleaner than a traditional seatpost, and the collar looks great topped with our ENVE-made Speedvagen post head.

popular upgrades

Frame Pump painted to match

The frame pump represents a recent shift in cyclists’ priorities. Instead of the lightest of everything, people are focusing more on how well something works and how much they enjoy using it. Unlike CO2 or a mini pump, with a full sized frame pump, not only will you always be able to get your tires up to full pressure, but you’ll be a best friend to everyone you ride with, cause you’ll always have enough air for them too.

Fenders painted to match

Riding in Portland 365 days per year, we know (and love) fenders. Honjo fenders (made in Japan) are the lightest and most beautiful available. For the Rugged Road we customize the fenders to size, they then paint to match so that they’re more of an extension of the frame, rather than more stuff that’s just bolted on.

Custom painted hubs

Hubs are a prime location to incorporate your Speedvagen frame color. Instead of the wheels looking like extra parts bolted into the bike, we like to carry the frame color down the fork and frame, through the hub and back up the frame/fork on the other side. ( not available on all hubs)
